Richard Rodney Bennett
Biography
b. 1936 Broadstairs, Kent. Began writing in early childhood and composed three string quartets by age of eighteen. Studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music with Howard Ferguson and Lennox Berkeley; later with Pierre Boulez in France. Now lives in New York City. Has performed and toured extensively as jazz pianist. Compositions include works for large variety of forces, orchestral, instrumental, choral and vocal, in addition to educational music, and film and television scores. Holds International Chair of Composition at the Royal Academy of Music.
